Robert Montague

Robert Montague (* 1964 or 1965 in Islington, St. Mary ) is a Jamaican politician with the Jamaica Labor Party (JLP). He was Jamaica’s Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries from July 2011 to January 2012.

Life

Montague grew up in Pembroke Hall in St. Mary and attended St. Mary High School. He later attended the College of Agriculture in Portland and graduated as an agronomist . He then worked professionally as chief consultant in Jamaica for the pesticide divisions of Bayer and BASF .

Montague served as Chairman of St. Mary Parish Council from July 2003 until he was elected to the House of Representatives in the West St. Mary constituency in September 2007 . After the election, he was appointed Minister of State responsible for local government .

In the course of a cabinet reshuffle, Montague was appointed by Prime Minister Bruce Golding with effect from July 1, 2011 to succeed Christopher Tufton as Jamaica's Agriculture and Fisheries Minister. Even after Golding's resignation in October 2011, Montague remained a member of the cabinet of Golding's successor Andrew Holness as Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries .

In the early parliamentary elections on December 29, 2011, which were won by the People's National Party (PNP), Montague was unable to defend his parliamentary mandate. He lost to Joylan Silvera of the PNP in the West St. Mary constituency . Montague's successor as Minister of Agriculture was Roger Clarke on January 6, 2012 .
