The Golden Leslie is a youth book award .

The prize is awarded to a fiction book for young people by a living German-speaking author that was published for the first time last year. The award is associated with 2,000 euros and a trophy, the "Golden Leslie". The prize is named after the mascot of the campaign “Reading lust in Rhineland-Palatinate ”, the bookworm “Leslie”.

The five-person preliminary jury, which in 2007 consisted of Stefan Gemmel (author), Gunda Kurz (LiteraturBüro Mainz), Angela Magin (Speyer City Library), Katja Theiß (kjl-online) and Yvonne Wolf ( University of Mainz ), selects a shortlist from a proposal from young people . The winning book itself will be determined by a youth jury.
