Josef Buchhorn (born January 8, 1875 in Cologne , † August 10, 1954 in Solingen-Ohligs ) was a German journalist , writer and politician .

Life

Josef Buchhorn was the son of a tax officer . He studied philosophy , German , history and art history at the universities in Bonn , Münster and Tübingen . Josef Buchhorn was a member of the Hohenstaufia Tübingen gymnastics club from 1897 until his death . From 1899 he worked as an editor in Düsseldorf , from 1900 in Elberfeld , from 1904 in Stuttgart and from 1905 in Danzig . In 1906 he wrote the poem Student sein , which was set to music as a popular student song. From 1907 Buchhorn worked for the feature pages of the Berliner Neuesten Nachrichten and from 1913 editor-in-chief of the magazine Guckkasten . At the same time he managed the Berlin branch of the Girardet publishing house and from 1916 the Berlin agency of the Hannoversche Kurier .

From 1921 to 1932 Buchhorn was a member of the German People's Party in the Prussian state parliament . In addition, he temporarily headed the editorial department of the magazine Deutscher Kulturwart and from 1929 published the correspondence Der Kreis , in which he campaigned for the establishment of a middle class party. After the National Socialist seizure of power , Buchhorn was Gau official head for press and culture in Gau Kurmark and worked as a consultant in the Reich Chamber of Literature.

Josef Buchhorn's literary work includes novels , short stories , essays , poems , radio plays and plays . Since his student days, his entire work has been strongly influenced by the author's German national convictions.
