Life

Well-known books by Gemmel are the multi-volume series Imzeichen der Zauberkugel and the trilogy Schattengreifer .

Gemmel holds readings , reading nights and workshops , which he conducts in schools and libraries. He involves his audience to a large extent, in line with the story he has read, for example in the form of role-plays, spontaneous theater or language experiments. On June 12, 2012, he set up a world record together with the “Book of Readers Service” when he reached the largest audience to date with a reading by a single author with two readings to more than 5000 children each in Koblenz and was included in the Guinness Book of Records managed. In September 2015, he again succeeded in attempting a world record, again in association with the “readers' service”: The fastest reading tour in the world: 82 readings in 13 days, 10 hours and 7 minutes throughout Germany. The whole thing was monitored by the record institute for Germany. The official, internationally comparable rules were also laid down there. In May 2018, he beat his own record from 2012, again with the “readers service”, when he read for and with 5542 children in the Commerzbank-Arena Frankfurt. In 2014, as cultural representative, he was part of Prime Minister Malu Dreyer's delegation trip to China, where he gave readings to Chinese schoolchildren and students. In 2016 he was a member of the jury in the final round of the “ National Reading Competition ”.

In addition to his work as an author, Gemmel leads literature projects and writing workshops . He is a member of the PEN Center Germany and the Association of German Writers (Landesgruppe Rheinland-Pfalz ). His books have been translated into 21 languages.

In 2007 Gemmel received the Federal Cross of Merit .
