Andreas Schendel

Andreas Schendel (* 1971 ) is a German writer . He is the author of children's and youth literature and has won several literary prizes .

Life

Schendel graduated from high school in 1992 and began studying psychology , philosophy and German at the Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg , which he broke off in 1998. He made his debut as a writer with the children's book The Story of Gina and Mr. Seeger. It was included in the 1999 White Ravens catalog of the International Youth Library in Munich for Switzerland . A second children's book, Lotte and the Desert Friendship, followed in 2000 . In 2001 he published his first novel Leuchtspur, and Fluchtpunkt followed in 2002 by Nagel & Kimche Verlag .

His work was supported by grants and prizes. In 2002 Schendel received a scholarship from the Association of German Writers. In 2003 he was Dresden city clerk . In the same year the Baden-Württemberg Art Foundation accepted him into its group of scholarship holders and the Aachen Literature Days were opened with the award of the Peter Klein Literature Prize to Schendel.

In 2003 the youth novel Take Anlauf und jump was published. Excerpts from his unpublished novel Kánikula were printed in the literary magazines Allmende and Signum .

In 2007 Dann tu's noch was published, which was nominated for the German Youth Literature Prize in 2008. The location of the action are the prefabricated buildings of Budapest . The protagonist is fourteen-year-old Zoltán, who falls in love with Aranka, who is two years her senior. He comes into conflict with Zoltán's older brother Peti after returning from guest work in Germany. A series of crimes takes place in parallel.

In 2003 he founded the JungKunst collection, which supports young artists through acquisitions. Artists in the collection include a. Lola Renn, Dirk Lange, VIP (Leipzig), and Judit Fischer (Budapest). In 2006 he curated the exhibition Mandy am Strand Bild an der Wand in Dresden.

Andreas Schendel lives in Dresden and Budapest.
