Wolfgang Butt
Wolfgang Butt (* 1937 in Wuppertal ) is a German Scandinavian , publisher and translator .
Life
Wolfgang Butt is the son of a Protestant publisher . Butt completed a degree in Scandinavian Studies at Kiel University in 1967 with a doctorate ; In 1977 he completed his habilitation there. Until 2000 he taught at various German universities. He also ran a publishing house for Scandinavian literature in Mönkeberg from 1987 to 1994 . Since 2000 he has been working as a freelance translator from Swedish , Norwegian , Danish and Icelandic into German . He became particularly well known as a translator of the works of Henning Mankell , Arne Dahl and Per Olov Enquist . Today Wolfgang Butt lives in the French town of Fontanes in the Lot department
In 1996 Butt was awarded the City of Kiel's Culture Prize.
