Art Prize of the State of Schleswig-Holstein
The Schleswig-Holstein State Art Prize is awarded every two years. The main prize, endowed with 20,000 euros, serves to “recognize a complete work in recognition of outstanding artistic achievements”, while a sponsorship award endowed with 5,000 euros supports young artists.
The award is given to artists who were born in Schleswig-Holstein , who work in the state or who have a special meaning for the state. The award is intended to recognize and promote artistic creation in the fields of architecture, visual arts (including handicrafts), film, music, literature and theater. The award is given in Kiel by the Prime Minister on the recommendation of a jury made up of members of the Artistic Advisory Board. The art prize was donated by the state government in 1950 to promote culture. From 1936 to 1943 there was an "Schleswig-Holstein Art Prize". In 2010 the price was suspended as part of austerity measures.
