Günter Haese
Günter Haese (born February 18, 1924 in Kiel ; † November 30, 2016 near Hanover ) was a German sculptor specializing in kinetic art and an art professor.
Life and work
Training and development
After his war, Günter Haese began to draw and paint as an autodidact in 1945. In 1949 he first attended a private art school in Plön and began studying with his wife at the Düsseldorf Art Academy in 1950 , where he studied with Bruno Goller and Ewald Mataré . In 1956 he became a master student in the sculpture class of Ewald Mataré, in whose work on Cologne Cathedral he was involved. From 1958 he worked as a freelance artist in Düsseldorf. In 1962 he discovered brass wire and components of dismantled clocks such as spiral springs and wheels as components for spatial objects and in 1964 he had his first solo exhibition of these metal objects in the Ulm Museum . Günter Haese was a member of the Free Academy of the Arts Hamburg . In 1994 he was awarded the honorary professorship of the State of Schleswig-Holstein “in recognition and in appreciation of the artistic life's work created over the decades” .
Artistic creation and meaning
The Ulm exhibition was so well received that Haese had a solo exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art in New York that same year . In 1967 he took part in the German pavilion at the world exhibition in Montreal , Expo 67 . Haese quickly became known and received many prominent visitors in his Düsseldorf studio, e. B. Henry Moore (1965) and the Dutch Crown Princess Beatrix (later Queen of the Netherlands) with her husband Klaus von Amberg (1975).
Haeses art objects are small transparent bodies made of brass and phosphor bronze . Balls, spirals or other filigree parts are lined up in a soldered wire mesh and thus form kinetic works of art of unique physicality. In contrast to representatives of the ZERO group such as Heinz Mack or Günther Uecker , Haese does not use electricity for his kinetic sculptures. Just a slight breeze is enough to set their delicate structures vibrating.
In 2006 the artist decided to build a monumental sculpture for the first time: Optimus II was completed in 2007 and placed in the Viersen sculpture collection .
Günter Haese was a member of the German Association of Artists . The artist's estate is administered by Galerie Thomas , Munich.
