The art gallery (2016)

The Kunsthalle Recklinghausen is an art museum in Recklinghausen that was set up in 1950 in a former bunker diagonally across from the main train station . The motive for the foundation was to supplement the Ruhr Festival with exhibitions of fine arts. To this day, the Kunsthalle Recklinghausen shows these accompanying art exhibitions during the annual Ruhr Festival. During the rest of the year, there are mostly thematic changing exhibitions with art since 1945. The winners of the biennial Young West art prize awarded by the city of Recklinghausen will also be shown in an exhibition in the Kunsthalle.

The municipal art collection includes works by important German post-war artists such as Emil Schumacher and Karl Otto Götz , which can only be seen irregularly in the art gallery.

location

The art gallery is located in a former bunker on Große-Perdekamp-Straße north of the main train station and opposite the railway facilities. It is therefore in the immediate city center.
