Filous (bourgeois Matthias Oldofredi , born March 4, 1997 ) is an Austrian music producer and multi-instrumentalist .

Career

Matthias Oldofredi grew up in the 11th district of Vienna . He started with 10 years ago, the bass guitar, and in the following years, mandolin, piano, accordion, flute, guitar and drums autodidactic learning. During his school days he adopted the pseudonym Filous, based on the old Viennese name Filous, for rascal .

Early in his career, he was always seen with his hands in front of his face when performing online and on social media , but not when performing live.

He first attracted attention by publishing various remixes (including Julian le Play ) on the video platform YouTube and the music service SoundCloud . His breakthrough came in 2015 while still at school when he released the single How Hard I Try together with James Hersey , which briefly hit the German and Dutch charts as well as the Belgian Ultratip charts in addition to the Austrian ones. In the same year Filous graduated from high school and released his first EP Dawn . In addition to How Hard I Try, you can also hear the single Shaded In which was created in collaboration with Jordan Leser. At the Austrian Amadeus Awards 2016 he was nominated in the categories Artist of the Year , Song of the Year and Electronic / Dance . On January 11, 2017, Filous was awarded the European Border Breakers Award (EBBA) at the Eurosonic Noorderslag Festival in Groningen .

His second EP was released in 2017 with the title For Love via Ultra Music . For individual songs he worked with the British singer klei, the US songwriter and singer Mat Kearney and the US songwriter and singer Emily Warren. The single Bicycle was released in 2018 . Filous describes this as a "hippy hop song", a mixture of jarring guitars, Mellotron vibes and old-school hip-hop .

In 2019 Filous released the single All My Friends Are Rich, featuring Louis III . The idea for this came up in a villa in Los Angeles , where at a private party he realized how absurd it was for him, as a “simple boy from Austria”, to suddenly belong to this scene . In the same year, the single Monday was created in collaboration with Ashe.

Filous is co-founder of the recording studio Villa lala, which opened in Vienna in 2019.
