Siegfried Gliewe

Siegfried Gliewe (born April 23, 1902 in Stolp ; † February 5, 1982 in Kiel ) was a German writer . Among other things, he published articles on Pomeranian local history.

Life

Siegfried Gliewe was the son of the carpenter Hermann Gliewe; his sister was the set designer and architectural painter Helene Blum-Gliewe .

Gliewe attended elementary and secondary school in Stolp . At the age of 15 he became a soldier in the First World War; After the end of the war, he initially served as a volunteer gunner in the Eastern Border Guard . From 1919 to 1922 he attended the teachers' college in Pyritz . Then, from 1923 to 1927, he studied at the Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität zu Berlin and the University of Greifswald . In 1935 he became a teacher in the Stolp district and in 1939 a soldier in World War II.

After 1945, when his homeland in Western Pomerania came under Polish administration, he came to Schleswig-Holstein as a refugee. From 1946 until his retirement in 1964 he worked as a teacher in Wendtorf and Laboe .

Gliewe wrote essays on the local history of Pomerania, but also short stories and radio plays, mostly also related to Pomerania. He also published travel pictures from Yugoslavia, which he first met as a soldier in World War II.
