Paul Dahlke (actor)
Paul Victor Ernst Dahlke (born April 12, 1904 in Groß Streitz near Köslin , Pomerania Province , † November 23, 1984 in Salzburg ) was a German actor and radio play speaker .
Life
The son of the music teacher Ernst Dahlke grew up in Köslin , went to school in Stargard and attended secondary school in Dortmund , where he graduated from high school in 1922. He studied at the Bergakademie Clausthal and at the Technical University Berlin-Charlottenburg . He also attended lectures in German and theater studies and tried his hand at painting and wood carving.
From 1926 Dahlke completed an acting training at the Max Reinhardt Acting School in Berlin . From 1928 theater engagements followed at various theaters in Berlin and in Munich . His numerous roles also included the title role in Carl Zuckmayer's Des Teufels General , the role of Professor Higgins in George Bernard Shaw's Pygmalion and the title role in Axel von Ambesser's Das Abyssal des Herr Gerstenberg . From 1934 to 1944 he was part of the ensemble of the Deutsches Theater in Berlin.
From 1934 Dahlke played mostly vital characters with a simple mind in various film roles. He was also seen in many drama adaptations, such as Ruprecht in Gustav Ucicky's Heinrich von Kleist film adaptation of The Broken Jug and in the Erich Kästner film adaptations of The Flying Classroom and Three Men in the Snow . After the war, Dahlke worked at the Munich State Theater from 1946 to 1953 , after which he made guest appearances at various theaters. His wife Elfe Gerhart-Dahlke , whom he married in 1955 (it was his second marriage), was an actress and sculptor.
Dahlke became known to a wide audience through numerous television roles such as that of the Rhine shipper Jakob Wilde on the MS Franziska in the series of the same name (1978). In 1961, under the direction of Heinz-Günter Stamm , he spoke the title role in the six-part radio play series Maigret and… from Bayerischer Rundfunk . As a voice actor he lent his voice to Charles Laughton (Under the Black Flag, The Paradin Case ) and Vincent Price (Key to Heaven), among others .
Dahlke's grave is in the Grundlsee cemetery (Austria).
His written estate is in the archive of the Academy of Arts in Berlin.
