Special Department K1 was a German crime series based on ideas by Answald Krüger , Maria Matray (1st and 2nd season) and Harald Vock (3rd and 4th season). The series produced by Norddeutscher Rundfunk was filmed from 1972 to 1982. The series consisted of four seasons of six episodes. The fourth and final season originally also comprised six episodes, but only five of them were shot. The script for the planned sixth episode of the fourth season, Death of a Showman , was only realized in 1984 by producer Harald Vock as a television film with other actors under the direction of Dietrich Haugk .
The directors of the series were Alfred Weidenmann (6 episodes, 1972–1982), Peter Schulze-Rohr (4 episodes, 1974–1977), Helmuth Ashley (2 episodes, 1972–1977), Hans Quest (2 episodes, 1973–1975), Lutz Büscher (2 episodes, 1982), Dietrich Haugk (2 episodes, 1982), Eberhard Pieper (1 episode, 1973) and Eberhard Itzenplitz (1 episode, 1974).
The title music of the series, composed by Martin Böttcher, was used in all episodes. In a cover version recorded by Böttcher, it was released on phonograms and in a shortened version that he himself rearranged, it was also used for a pasta advertisement.
action
The team of the special department K1 consisted of the chief detective Arnold Matofski ( Gert Günther Hoffmann , in the 1st season still chief chief) and Kurt Diekmann ( Hubert Suschka ), the chief chief Theodor "Teddy" Beer ( Peter Lakenmacher ) and the chief chief Oliver Stüben ( Hermann Treusch ). In the 2nd season the actor Hermann Treusch was replaced by Claus Ringer , who played a bank robber in an episode of the 1st season ( Kassensturz at midnight ) and knocked down his "predecessor" Hermann Treusch. His role was that of chief detective Eberhard Seidel. In the fourth season, Horst Janson joined the team of the K1 special department instead of Peter Lakenmacher as Robert Hahn. The series played in Hamburg. Characteristic from the 1st to 3rd season was the brief introduction of the investigators at the beginning of the episode by an off-screen voice.
In contrast to conventional crime series such as Der Kommissar or Tatort , the special department K1 did without an omniscient chief investigator who was assisted by one or more assistants; The everyday detail work of the criminal police should be shown. That is why the investigators were in the middle service and not commissioners. A superior of the team, Kriminalhauptkommissar Rautenberg, only appeared in the first season; But he always remained invisible and did not take part in the missions, only his voice could be heard from time to time (spoken by Arnold Marquis ). In his absence he was disparagingly dubbed "the old man" by the K1 investigators. The character of Mr. Rautenberg disappeared from the 2nd season, from then on the team worked - at least as far as recognizable for the viewer - autonomously, there was no clear boss.
In the first season there were - rather unusual for a crime series - in two episodes ( guardian angel and cash drop at midnight ) no deaths, from the second season at least one corpse became mandatory for each episode. The postulated closeness to reality was not achieved in the first season; in the episode Caution Guardian Angel , for example, it was about protection racketeers on St. Pauli , who in the end could actually all be arrested. This did not do justice to the complex problem of extortion of protection money with elusive backers, who also mostly sat abroad in 1972 and operated internationally. From season 4, the individual episodes were 70 to 90 minutes long instead of 60. A continuation of the series was definitely considered; It was only after Hubert Suschka's death in 1986 that the NDR decided to work with the men from K3 (1988) on a completely new series.
