Eberhard Itzenplitz

Eberhard Itzenplitz (born November 8, 1926 in Holzminden ; † July 21, 2012 in Munich ) was a German film , theater and television director and author .

Life

Eberhard Itzenplitz comes from an old, originally Brandenburg family , who moved to Saxony after he was born in the hospital on Hafendamm in Holzminden , where he grew up. His father Hans-Jürgen Itzenplitz was a lieutenant colonel in the Air Force, his mother Hildegard, nee. Langemeyer came from Holzminden. In Leipzig he attended the Königin-Carola-Gymnasium . He graduated from high school in Berlin and was then drafted. Towards the end of the war he was captured by the Soviets after his plane was shot down and the resulting jump near Magdeburg. After his return he studied German literature , art history and philosophy in Munich and Göttingen from 1948 to 1952 , where he worked as an assistant director to the director Heinz Hilpert during his studies ; at the same time he learned in the local film studio . In 1953 he received his doctorate in Göttingen to Dr. phil. with a dissertation on stage sets during Goethe's time .

Between 1953 and 1960 he worked as an assistant director in several films, including those of Karl Ritter , Georg Tressler and William Dieterle . From 1961 to 1964 he was an authorized signatory and head of the television game department of the Bertelsmann group and from 1966 to 1972 a partner in München-Film GmbH.

Since then, Itzenplitz has staged many plays in German theaters, but has also taken on numerous film and television productions as an author and director. His strong commitment to time-sensitive topics led him to increasingly turn demanding television films since 1963.

Eberhard Itzenplitz lived and worked in Munich. In 1954 he married Gisela Karge, and their son Stephan Itzenplitz came from the marriage. His written estate is in the archive of the Academy of Arts in Berlin.
