Hans Breden is an eternal, failed student, without permanent employment. He lacks the financial means to complete his medical studies. His long-time friend Julia is a successful vet, but she cannot free him from the predicament either. He is also burdened by the death of his mother, who died in a mental hospital. On the spur of the moment, he got himself a wrong name and two wrong doctorates. He forges the necessary papers and applies as Dr. Dr. Sylvester as a doctor and psychiatrist for a local health authority.
He is hired without a hitch, without a thorough examination. The charming Dr. Dr. Since then he has been regarded as a qualified doctor and highly intelligent psychiatrist who successfully fulfills his duties in the health authority. Because of this success, he quickly enjoyed the trust of the so-called better society. Its members are increasingly seeking personal, medical advice from the natural talent. The mayor seeks help because he sees himself surrounded by enemies who are trying to get him to work. A city council suffers from memory lapses that its enemies have long recognized. A factory owner facing bankruptcy wants to usurp his mother's fortune and therefore wants her to be incapacitated. Breden tries to deal with the problems first, but in the end they grow over his head.
In this situation, he stages a mishap. He loses his fake ones along with the correct identification documents, which results in him being charged in court. The court process finally proves how easy it is to achieve professional success and recognition in a better society that believes in the title.

The feature film was produced on behalf of the Second German Television (ZDF). The motifs of the film take up events from Flensburg in a very free form . There, in 1982/83, the fake medical officer Dr. Dr. Bartholdy, who in truth had not completed a medical degree and whose real name was Gert Postel . The television film was first broadcast on ZDF on April 10, 1989.
