Schwarzenberg is a film adaptation of the 1984 novel of the same name by Stefan Heym . The television film was produced by ZDF in 1988 as a two-part series, both episodes were broadcast in May 1989.

action

The Saxon district of Schwarzenberg in the Ore Mountains remains unoccupied for 42 days in 1945 for inexplicable reasons. Neither the Red Army in the east nor the US Army in the west make any move to take the area. The people there use the opportunity to design what they see as an ideal political structure without external pressure. Democracy and socialism should exist linked in the Republic of Schwarzenberg , freedom of expression and constitutionally guaranteed modesty of the civil servants are among the basic ideas. Unfortunately the dream came to an end after six weeks when the Red Army annexed the area.
