With the best recommendations is an Austrian, playful film satire from 1963 with Georg Thomalla , Gunther Philipp and Adrian Hoven in the leading roles.

action

Ferdinand Blume is a small, very agile employee who tirelessly submits suggestions for improvement to bureaucratic processes to his superiors. So far, none of his suggestions have received any attention from management juggling on the verge of bankruptcy. This is about to change suddenly when one day the rumor gets around that Blume enjoys the highest protection: that of the Minister. Since the minister has to decide on government contracts and thus could bring the company to bloom again, the almost unstoppable rise of Ferdinand begins, who can least explain it to himself.

When one day a certain Otto Alhoys comes into play and it turns out that he is in close contact with the Minister, Ferdinand Blume slips down the career ladder just as quickly as he climbed it shortly before. But since Blume was able to convince with his activities during this time, he soon has a stone in the board with his contact person, Ms. Hartmann, as well as with his colleague and friend Hans Neubauer and the head boss, General Director Brock.

Production notes

With the best of recommendations , it was made in Vienna in spring 1963 and its German premiere was on May 17, 1963. In Austria, the film was shown for the first time on September 27, 1963.

Günter Eulau was the production manager. The buildings were designed by Ferry Windberger . Otto Schmöle gave his farewell performance in the movie here.

In its April 10, 1963 issue, Der Spiegel reported in a short report on Nachmann's production and pointed out that With Best Recommendations was heavily inspired by the German Uncle Aloys affair of the previous year and, according to director Nachmann, as film material "Downright forced".

According to producer Karl Spiehs, the film "paradoxically" failed and became a "total flop", although the play had previously been a success with Ernst Waldbrunn , Rudolf Platte and Heinz Erhardt and was again a huge hit after the film with Walter Roderer .

Reviews

The film was panned throughout. Here is a short selection:

"Crude political allusions are supposed to simulate intellectual content in the primitive, predominantly clothing-like comedy."

- Films 1962-64. Handbook VII of the Catholic film criticism, p. 116.Dusseldorf 1965

Paimann's film lists summed up: "The reproach that is close to the present and its main role, embodied more humanly in the theater, are - conceived more directly and louder - turned into junk satire."

“A comedy in clothes with careful allusions to political life in the Federal Republic. (...) One of the failures of primitive film, which ignores all stylistic possibilities of contemporary political cabaret, is the instinctless involvement of development aid. "
