Ernst Waldbrunn (actually Ernest Karl Anton Waldbrunn, born August 14, 1907 in Krumau , † December 22, 1977 in Vienna ) was an Austrian actor and cabaret artist .

Life

He received his doctorate in law in Prague , then made his debut on provincial stages in Moravia and later came to Vienna, where he played in the Simpl cabaret alongside Karl Farkas and became famous for the double confessions written by Hugo Wiener . In addition, he appeared on stages in Vienna as a comedian and character actor, mainly at the Theater in der Josefstadt , where he was a member of the ensemble from 1946 to 1977, but also in several films.

Together with Lida Winiewicz , Waldbrunn is also the author of the serious and autobiographical drama Die Flucht , which was celebrated in the leading role when it was premiered in Vienna in 1965. His characteristic "stuttering" was considered lovable and became his trademark.

Waldbrunn was married to Elfriede Ott from 1950 to 1964 . At the end of September 1977 Waldbrunn suffered a stroke. His honorary grave is located at the Vienna Central Cemetery (group 40, number 55).
