The Page vom Palast-Hotel is an Austrian comedy film by Thomas Engel from 1958 . It is based on the novel The Page from the Dalmass Hotel by Maria von Peteani .

action

Singer Friedl Helmer and her band got an engagement at the Palast Hotel. Since the actual singer of the hotel complains to the director that another woman should sing for her, the director Friedl quits without further ado, especially since she is supposed to arrive at the hotel after the band. In fact, Friedl is taken with him by car by the writer Walter Hellberg and his servant Leopold. In the end, Friedl forgets her lighter in the car.

In their accommodation, Friedl learns from the band members that they have to perform without them. Without further ado, she applies for an advertised position at the palace hotel that is looking for a page. She dresses up as a boy. Because she is the only applicant who knows the director's motto, who counts his hotel among the only four really existing hotels in the world, she is hired. Walter is also staying at the Palace Hotel. Due to an injury, he has to have one arm in a sling so that Leopold has to look after him. When his servant becomes the father of triplets, Walter sends him to his wife. Friedl is to replace Leopold for the next eight days. She agrees happily.

One of the hotel guests is the rich American Mrs. Wilkinson, who always travels with all her jewelry and, more recently, with her servant Richard Allhard, and keeps an eye on Friedl. Walter meets his friend Nicky Salmofer again, who hopes to find a wife in the hotel. In fact, two women check in shortly afterwards: The supposed South American women Juanita and Marguarita Gonzales are in reality the thief Mimi and her partner Harry, who are after Mrs. Wilkinson's jewelry. Nicky falls in love with "Marguarita" (Harry), who is so very different from other women, while Mimi is interested in the non-fiction author Walter, whom she confuses with the romance novelist of the same name. Friedl is not right about Mimi's interest and so she tries everything to keep her away from Walter.

Since Mrs. Wilkinson is known for hiding her jewelry so well in her hotel room that in the end not even she can find it, Harry makes several attempts to secretly find the jewelry in the hotel room. Once he is disturbed by her dog and another time by Richard Allhard, who is also interested in jewelry. Both decide to share the booty if they are found.

Meanwhile, Walter takes a liking to his page and humorously says that he would marry him if he weren't a boy. When Friedl gives him a fire, he realizes that the page must be the young Friedl, since he had given her the forgotten lighter back through the band members. He tests Friedl several times, asks her to try on clothes for his niece, and finally takes her with the other hotel guests on a mountain tour that includes an overnight stay. He and Friedl share a room and Friedl decides to tell him the truth. Walter falls asleep in the lobby and Friedl kisses him carefully at the end. Only now is Walter sure that he is dealing with the young woman Friedl.

By chance, Harry discovers that the jewelry is hidden in a camisole that the dog is wearing. He steals the fabric and escapes with Mimi gen station. Richard Allhard jumps into their car before they can drive away alone. Friedl, in turn, noticed the theft and follows the trio to the train station. Everyone in the hotel believes Friedl stole the jewelry and fled. Walter is deeply disappointed. Friedl, however, notifies the police at the train station, who can arrest the trio. It turns out that only Harry and Mimi are criminals. Richard Allhard is employed by the insurance company that Mrs. Wilkinson reported her jewelry to as allegedly stolen. The insurance company paid a huge sum, but suspected that the jewelry had not disappeared and was now right. Friedl, in turn, is rehabilitated and can now finally fall into Walter's arms.
