Fishing protection boat
Fisheries protection boats monitor compliance with the fishing regulations on the fishing grounds and in the fishing areas for coastal and deep-sea fishing on behalf of the state . In addition to carrying out police tasks such as checking the logbooks , the mesh size of the nets and the catches, their crews perform u. a. technical and medical assistance and weather advice. In some countries, such as England and Denmark, fisheries protection is the task of the military.
Germany
Also in Germany was the fishery protection mission of the Imperial Navy , and in 1919 the Imperial Navy . The ships of the Brummer class were mainly engaged in fishery protection. In the 1930s, the Elbe and Weser navy ships served as fishing protection boats.
The Federal Republic of Germany now has three fishery protection boats, which are managed by the Federal Agency for Agriculture and Food :
- White-tailed eagle (commissioned in 2000)
- Seefalke (commissioned 2008)
- Vervet monkey (commissioned 2009)
The German fishery protection boats are part of the German coast guard in the Coast Guard Coordination Association , as federal executive forces at sea.
Former fisheries protection boats of the Federal Republic were:
- Vervet Monkey (1950–1974)
- Frithjof (1968–1977)

- Vervet Monkey (1977-2009)
With the Robert Koch, the GDR operated a fishing aid ship from 1956 to 1979, whose range of operations was basically the same as that of the West German fishing protection ships in the same period, ie medical, technical and meteorological support for deep-sea fishing.
England and Scotland
The Fishery Protection Squadron is a traditional part of the Royal Navy . Admiral Horatio Nelson already served in the squadron, which today comprises four ships and works with civil authorities. The Scottish Fisheries Protection Authority has two ships of its own.
Ireland
As an island nation, Ireland oversees a relatively large EEZ. The Irish Naval Service is responsible for Irish fisheries protection. Between 2014 and 2016, the three ocean patrolling boats of the Samuel Beckett class, LÉ Samuel Beckett , LÉ James Joyce and LÉ William Butler Yeats were put into service.
United States
In the USA, the fishing vessel safety division of the United States Coast Guard is responsible for fisheries protection .
