Gustav Kampendonk

Gustav Kampendonk (born May 30, 1909 in Hoengen , † June 29, 1966 in Berlin ) was a German screenwriter .

Life

Kampendonk studied newspaper science and art history in Munich , Berlin and Leipzig . In 1933 he was with the thesis The story of the Krefeld newspaper business from its beginnings to 1814. A Contribution to the Press and Cultural History of the Lower Rhine to Dr. phil. PhD . In the 1930s he wrote feature pages , and in 1937 he worked for the UFA for the first time as a dramaturge .

From 1939 he wrote scripts, including for the first German color film, women are better diplomats . In the 1950s in particular, Kampendonk was a prolific writer who also adapted some of his scripts into novels. Mostly he devised the plot for film comedies , hit films or other entertainment films . Only in the concentration camp breakout film Morituri (1948) and in the comedy Die Frauen des Herr S. (1951) did he venture to tackle problems of contemporary history. With The Avenger he wrote his only Edgar Wallace film . Most recently he wrote 13 episodes of the television series Police Radio calls (leading actors: Josef Dahmen and Karl-Heinz Hess ).
