action
Years later, seaman Hannes Wedderkamp returns to his home town of Hamburg , where he wants to retire. There he meets Pitter Breuer again, an old friend who is doing extremely badly on business with his gallop hall on the Reeperbahn . The cheerful Hannes gives Pitter a helping hand and he manages to fill the orphaned restaurant with guests within a short time. Hannes also wants to invest the money he has saved in a revue to transform the colorless gallop hall into a gold mine.
Hannes is impressed by Anni, Pitter Breuer's adult daughter. Anni, however, loves the shipowner's son Jürgen Brandstetter. His father, Brandstetter senior, does not want to know anything about an improper connection between his son and the daughter of a bar owner. However, he changed his attitude when he met Anni's father personally. In addition, Pitter Hannes reveals that Hannes is Anni's biological father, but that Pitter always pretended to be a father to her. This leads to a falling out between the friends.
Left to his own devices, Pitter enters into an illegal deal with Bilek in order to secure the expensive renovation of the restaurant. Bilek plans to lift a submarine loaded with Nazi gold out of the Baltic Sea . Anni tells Hannes that Pitter got involved with the unscrupulous Bilek. He suspects his friend's life is in danger and does everything in his power to ultimately save him. After the reconciliation, Hannes hurries back to the harbor during Anni's engagement party without his daughter knowing the truth.

Reviews
"Popular entertainment film about two tried and tested stars in the St. Pauli milieu, enriched with popular melodies and Reeperbahn romance."
“Musical folk piece, which is about the air of life on the notorious street in Hamburg and the well-known performances by Albers and Rühmann. Mixture of film St. Pauli and some reality. "
"A musical folk piece that has little to do with the people and little to do with the reality of Hamburg's sinful mile."
“In addition to the dramatic and touching story, it is the original locations that make the film a crowd favorite. With so much local color, some Hamburg fans go into raptures and countless Hanseatic people indulge in nostalgic feelings at every performance and hum the familiar melody along the sinful mile. "
