Joe Hembus

Joe Hembus (Josef Maria Julius Hembus) (born May 11, 1933 in Kassel ; † April 21, 1985 at the Bavarian Benediktenwand ) was a German film critic , film historian, screenwriter and film actor.

Life

His pamphlet " The German Film Can't Be Better " (1961) paved the way for the New German Film . The Western Lexicon written by Joe Hembus was continued by his son Benjamin Hembus and is one of the standard works on this subject in German-speaking countries. In addition, Hembus has also dealt intensively with the silent film comedy - and especially with the films of Charlie Chaplin . He was the editor of the German editions of the famous Citadel film books , which were published by Goldmann Verlag . His collaboration on the ZDF series Western from yesterday should also be mentioned.

Joe Hembus had a fatal accident while climbing in 1985 at the age of 51 in the Bavarian Benediktenwand. He was buried in the cemetery of Straßlach near Munich .

He cast a film role in 1971 in the feature film The sudden wealth of the poor people of Kombach .
