Lynda Lemay (born July 25, 1966 in Portneuf , Québec ) is a French-speaking Canadian singer .

Live and act

Lemay always describes herself in her songs as Quebecer ("québecoise") and explicitly rejects the designation of Quebec's residents as "Canadians". Her music is more text-heavy and often tells little stories from everyday life. On July 22, 2006, their daughter Ruby was born, whose father is the American Michael Weisinger, to whom Lemay has been married since summer 2005. The singer has another daughter from the divorced marriage with comedian and actor Patrick Huard .

She wrote her first "Chansons" at the age of nine ( Dad, are you there? ). At 18 she began studying literature, wrote a novel and discovered her interest in the piano. Her greatest musical role model is the French rock star Johnny Hallyday . In 1988 she had her first major successes and won in 1989 at the renowned Granby Chanson Festival. With the support of Charles Aznavour, she also managed to gain fame outside of Canada. Since then she has received numerous prizes in Québec and France (e.g. the "Sentier des Halles" award in 1995 or the award for best female performer of 2003 at the "Victoires de la musique").

The lyrics of their songs are often characterized by a mixture of despair and (self) irony; the concerns of single mothers are often mentioned, and occasionally the identity of Quebecers. Lemay's most recently released album ( Ma Signature ) achieved gold status in France and represents a return to the origins of her career, i.e. acoustic guitar sounds and poetic lyrics. In total, she has now sold over three million albums in French-speaking countries, which makes Lynda Lemay one of the most successful French-Canadian musicians. Since February 2007 she has been on her tour C'est que du bois in France, Québec, Switzerland and Belgium. Lynda Lemay's fortieth appearance in the famous Olympic Hall in Paris was released on DVD in November 2007. Gerard Pullicino was won over to realize this project.
