Rolf Olsen

Rolf Olsen , birth name Rudolf Knoblich , (born December 26, 1919 in Vienna ; † April 3, 1998 in Starnberg ) was an Austrian actor , director and screenwriter . He also worked under the pen name Emerson Fox .

Life

Rolf Olsen attended the Theresian Academy in Vienna and made his stage debut in 1940 in Bielitz . Further stage stations were Gablonz , Linz and Vienna, where he appeared at the Theater in der Josefstadt and at cabarets. After the war he continued his stage work and made guest appearances in Switzerland and Germany . As a co-writer for Singing Angels , he made his first mark on film.

Olsen was an all-rounder and was one of the most versatile filmmakers in the German-speaking world. As a director , he moved in the most diverse areas of the genre, be it comedy to swank, drama to melodrama or crime to horror film. Olsen worked with film greats such as Heinz Erhardt , Curd Jürgens , Klaus Kinski , Mario Adorf and many others. More than 40 feature films, including several award-winning works, bear testimony to this.

Olsen often wrote the scripts for his own films, but was also the author of other productions, such as for Hans-Joachim Kulenkampff , with whom he shot in Africa, Scotland and the Canary Islands.

As an actor, he appeared in over 50 films from 1949 to 1990, and he was also seen in several television productions. He wrote plays and worked as a radio play speaker .

Olsen was married to the Austrian actress Ilse Peternell for 40 years . He died of cancer. His grave is at the Klagenfurt -St. Martin.
