action

Willi Hirsekorn and his family are constantly fighting with the neighbors Buntje. One family always wants to outperform the other. When the two women of the family meet in the shop, Mizzi Buntje brags about the vacation they intend to spend in Italy. Sieglinde Hirsekorn is in no way inferior to this and says that she had booked her Italian vacation long ago in front of the neighbors and that she drives with her own car, not with the coach like the Buntjes. The rest of the family just doesn't know about it and she has to persuade the family first. After all, you travel to Italy and meet the Buntjes there. There, too, the little neighborly quarrels continue. The cheeky millet grain children help with their pranks.

Also in the party are Sieglinde Hirsekorn's clumsy brother Luitbert, who falls in love with the hotelier's daughter, the boxer dog "Karl-Heinz" der Hirsekorns, and the friend of the Buntjes' daughter. Incognito, however, because the father doesn't think much of the young man, even though he doesn't know him. The friend uses this opportunity to win the father over to his side.

A holiday flirt with the seductive blonde Clementine, who all men have their eyes on, turns the two family fathers into competitors. From then on, Willi Hirsekorn and Heimo Buntje try to court the favor of the spoiled Clementine. What they don't know: Clementine is a fraud who is more interested in men's money.

Trivia

Heinz Erhardt sings the well-known song Always when I'm sad (I drink a grain) in this film .

Reviews

"Heinz Erhardt comedy rich in jokes and clichés about two 'hostile' neighboring families who are reconciled after a turbulent holiday in Italy."

“17 years before Gerhard Polts Man speaks deutsh (1987), Rolf Olsen staged an accurate holiday satire with 'That can't shake our Willi' . The fast-paced film punctuates the annual summer vacation madness. Heinz Erhardt is the ideal cast for the main role of the self-deprecating Italian vacationer. At his side, Ruth Stephan ( The Sinful Village ) shines as a capricious wife, Günther Jerschke ( triplets on board ) as a conservative philistine and Käte Jaenicke as a bitch. "

"The Hirsekorn family is on vacation in Italy and these clothes don't stop at any cliché."

- Heyne Film Lexicon, 1996

"Sloppy, comically conceived family film that tries to satisfy the need for inconsequential entertainment in the simplest possible way."

- Protestant film observer, review No. 531/1970
