One speaks German is a satirical fictional film from 1988. The main characters are actors and cabaret artists Gerhard Polt and Gisela Schneeberger , with the well-known cabaret artists Dieter Hildebrandt and Werner Schneyder in supporting roles .

action

The film is about the vacation of the Bavarian Löffler family from Ampermoching in the fictional resort of Valcina Mare near Terracina on the Tyrrhenian Sea . She would like to enjoy her last day of vacation, but the heat, noise, clogged toilets, dirty beaches and the fear of car thieves make life difficult for her and the rest of the German beach colony.

The honest parents Irmgard and Erwin and their pampered, plump son Heinz-Rüdiger caricature the cliché of the German tourist abroad: They complain about the customs of the host country and by and large are of the opinion that Italy would be a beautiful country if it were since it weren't for the Italians. The “Poseidon platter” doesn't taste good either, although the waiters in the Ristorante try so hard to speak “German” with the guests, and there are mainly German dishes on the menu.

The description of the daily routine is interrupted by six intervening daydreams in which the petty-bourgeois longings and fears of the main characters are targeted. Each of these daydreams begins with a real occurrence and ends like a nightmare with a real occurrence (e.g. a corresponding noise) that suddenly brings the dreamer back into reality:

Erwin watches the tanned blonde beach beauty Fraulein Häberlein put on the lotion ... She asks him to help her and asks him for a nightly rendezvous on the beach. There she lures him into a strange garden. Erwin follows hesitantly and anxiously; When he does get closer, the light goes on in the house and a man with a rifle in his hand comes out, curses loudly and starts shooting.

Irmgard overhears a conversation between the wealthy stock market speculator Friedhelm Eigenbrodt and Dr. Amöbius, who raves about his new villa, the "Casa Eigenbrodt", and invites him to a Campari ... Irmgard refers to the invitation and they drive to his property in Eigenbrodt's convertible. Once there, he leads her through the house and shows her his "Camorra Cracker" alarm system, which is howling loudly more and more often.

Some Italians play frisbee. Erwin hits the disc and a young Italian takes the toy back and apologizes verbatim with a deep look into Erwin's eyes ... He drives her to a luxury hotel of the highest category, where the night costs 600,000 lire. In the adjoining restaurant, Erwin, who is so excited about his new friend, Violetta, orders a Jägermeister and “pizza with everything” for himself and her. However, there is no pizza in this "ristorante di categoria", so he changes the order to "Spaghetti with tomato sauce" and "a good red wine, a French one". Suddenly, Dr. Wilms to go to the bathroom. Finally, Mrs. Endress comes and asks about Erwin's wife and so disturbs the idyll. Violent digestive noises end the dream.

Irmgard, beach dresses are offered in a rather intrusive way by an outpatient beach seller. Ms. Endress thinks one of the dresses is totally chic and encourages Irmgard to buy it. The owner of the kiosk on the beach interferes ... He invites you to take part in the event "Election of Miss Paradiso" in a posh beach hotel. Irmgard is very embarrassed at first, she resists, then prepares herself accordingly and wins the election. In the applause for the winner, the jury suddenly begins to shout “Take off, take off, take off!”. Irmgard wants to flee, but the Italians hold on to her and begin to tear her clothes off.

Irmgard watches as a yacht dinghy approaches the beach. The person on it waves, Irmgard waves back ... and is invited to a tour by Mr. von Bronstedt, who recognizes in her the "gorgeous Miss Paradiso". A conversation about the beauty of the sea and the culture of the Italians leads to the statement that “this gifted people is not able to handle sourdough” and that they are already thoroughly fed up with this eternal white bread. Irmgard promises von Bronstedt a special treat: he asks her to close her eyes and let her smell a “Franconian homemade liver sausage”.

Erwin and Irmgard argue and accuse each other of being to blame for the loss of the car key. Both are completely desperate because that would call into question the punctual return home ... Erwin goes to the car and sees a little boy who scratches the paint with the key, shows him his tongue and runs away. He pursues the boy and has to notice that another Italian gets into his car and drives away. A wild chase through the narrow streets of a typical Italian old town begins. When he finally catches the boy, Italians pour out of the houses, attack him and snatch the screaming child from him. Erwin calls for the police, they appear and demand "passaporto documenti" from him. He protests that he was “robbed and totally robbed” by this child: “Io Tedesco!” Finally, Erwin's handcuffs click. In reality, the beach watcher takes his wrist and draws his attention to the little boy who is standing in front of him and has found the key.

In the end, the Löfflers are so satisfied and happy that they decide to come back next year.

Quotes

“ I know Siena , because my gasoline pump gave out; two days stay, dreary, in the whole nest there was nowhere to find a gasoline pump. "(Dr. Wilms)

“Nice here, isn't it? Incidentally, only Germans live here, including a few Swiss; We don't let Italians in, especially here! ”(Friedhelm Eigenbrodt)

Reviews

  • “A grotesque sequence of coarse-comical to macabre scenes from the life of German package tourists; quite accurate in details, the film, due to its lack of compression and dramatization, gives away an illuminating examination of tourist ways of living and thinking. ”( Lexicon of international films , CD-ROM edition, Systhema, Munich 1997)
  • The Wiesbaden film evaluation agency awarded the production the title valuable .
