Erwin Halletz

Erwin Halletz (born July 12, 1923 in Vienna ; † October 27, 2008 there ; pseudonym: René Roulette ) was an Austrian composer , arranger and conductor who composed well-known hits as well as numerous film scores .

Life

Erwin Halletz started taking violin lessons at the age of 6 and made his first appearance at the age of 12. From 1937 he attended the Vienna Music Academy , where he studied clarinet with Leopold Wlach, among others . After his first appearances in bars he did three years of military service in a music corps and played with Peter Kreuder and in the large dance orchestra under Kurt Graunke , which was an entertainment ensemble for the Wehrmacht until shortly before the end of the war.

In April 1945 Halletz was hired by the Soviet commandant's office to join an orchestra to look after the troops, and in 1946 he became first violinist in Horst Winter's Vienna Dance Orchestra (WTO) , for whom he also worked as an arranger and wrote his first compositions. He was also a saxophonist and singer. From 1950 he took over the management of the Vienna Dance Orchestra, with which he undertook extensive tours abroad and recorded records for Elite Spezial . Halletz composed the first film music in 1953 for the film " Ein tolles Früchtchen " (director: Franz Antel ), and created the music for around 120 films. With his own orchestra he made numerous recordings for Austroton and Polydor .

In 1961 Halletz went to Monaco for a guest performance . There he became arranger and conductor of the Monte Carlo Light Symphony Orchestra . This “guest performance” was to last for 41 years. From 1979 Halletz was music director at the Eistheater Berlin and also wrote the arrangements.

Halletz worked with countless greats in the film and music industry, such as Peter Alexander , Udo Jürgens , Zarah Leander , Marika Rökk , Johannes Heesters , Ted Herold and Connie Francis .

In 1950 he met the singer Nina Konsta (1918–2003), whom he married in 1956.

Erwin Halletz has been living in Vienna again since 2002. His final resting place and that of his wife is at the Grinzinger Friedhof in Vienna, Gr. 32 / Row 5 / No. 27.
