action

The musicians of the Sonny Boys group - Max, Gus, Paul and Pitt - have not had a commitment for six months when they received an offer from Davos : They are supposed to perform as The 5 Great Aunts at the Schlager Festival in Davos. Hotel manager Mägerli had seen the men in women's clothes during an appearance and thinks they are real women. In particular, the advertising artist Pitt is against the renewed masquerade, but learns that his fiancée Susi Güden from Denmark recently went to Arosa on a skiing holiday. Since he cannot afford a vacation but wants to be with her, he agrees to a masquerade in the end. The 5 great aunts completes the bird seller Hyacinth Grad, as the real fifth Sonny Boy now lives in the United States.

In the hotel in Davos, meanwhile, the lack of women on site is causing an upset. Above all, the oil sheikh who came with entourage wants to leave again, because he wanted to create a harem on site. He changed his mind when he heard of the arrival of the group of women who, at Mägerli's suggestion, now call themselves the Jolly Sisters . The first day in the hotel goes by in subtle chaos. The next morning Pitt secretly drives to Arosa, where he meets Susi. Pitt doesn't want to tell her what he's doing in Davos, but promises to clear everything up in three days. He knows that Susi would not forgive him for another masquerade. The boyish Felicitas, however, has become suspicious and follows Pitt. She follows him to the hotel, where she meets Pitt and Max Radich in women's clothes. Back in Arosa, Felicitas tells what she saw, and Susi is in tears. Without further ado, the clique, which includes Felicitas and Susi as well as Gus' girlfriend Evi, Brigitte and Jutta, decides to get back at the men. They want to go to the hotel as the ladies' nephews.

The Jolly Sisters quickly recognize who the "nephews" are. It comes to various turbulences, so the young "gentlemen" are now surrounded by the older women of the hotel. The Jolly Sisters have to face different gentlemen, including the sheikh and the doctor Dr. Heribert Wippel, fight back. When a group of mannequins cannot come to the hotel due to a snowstorm, the Jolly Sisters step in as models and cut a figure that takes getting used to, just like Max and Hyacinth on the ice the next day. The “nephews” are supposed to show the hotel guests that they are real men at a bobsleigh race, but are represented by the real men who finally give up their masquerade at the finish. Mägerli is horrified, locks the men in the hotel basement and also wants to imprison the fake nephews, who, however, now identify themselves as young women. After all, it is the singing star Gerd Savona who saves the ladies and gentlemen from the police. He is married to Brigitte and would not appear if his wife were imprisoned - a financial loss that Mägerli cannot afford. In the end, the men appear as The 5 Great Aunts as agreed and ensure that the audience is cheerful. Couples have formed: Brigitte and Gerd are married, Susi forgives Pitt and Evi their Gus, while Max and Hyacinth fight for Felicitas.

production

Our great niece was born in the Sievering studio in Vienna. Gerdago created the costumes, and Wolf Witzemann designed the film . Production manager was Karl Spiehs . The film had its premiere on February 12, 1963 in the Ufa-Palast in Cologne . The film is self-deprecating with the fade-ins "We proudly present the biggest nonsense of the year" and "We are extremely sorry to have to forego a federal film award , but first we try to bring in the production costs".

Various hits can be heard in the film:

Vivi Bach also sings a bat about Susi from Denmark .

criticism

"Another dozen stories that benefit from gauged roles for their female impersonators and [...] at least have a laughing effect [...] on undemanding viewers."

- Paimann's film lists , September 10, 1963

"A 'fun' that can hardly be beaten in terms of spiritlessness, the abysses of which cannot be bridged by the self-irony applied thickly."

“The second part of the 'Tolle Tanten' series […] is also the least important. The plot is uninspired, and even pop music fans won't get their money's worth here. "
