Lolita (singer)
Lolita , actually Edith Einzinger , née Zuser (born January 17, 1931 in St. Pölten , † July 1, 2010 in Salzburg ), was an Austrian pop singer , actress and television presenter .
Life
The daughter of a federal official attended a commercial school and worked as a clerk in a spinning mill, as a qualified kindergarten teacher and dental assistant. She appeared as a singer at local events and in 1956 represented Gerhard Wendland, who was sick, during an evening of entertainment . After test recordings in the ORF -Landesstudio Linz, she devoted herself entirely to her career as a singer.
With her first hit, White Elderberry , she was also seen in the film of the same name in 1957 and in the same year was able to take second place in the German charts with The White Moon of Maratonga . In 1960 she had a great success with Seemann (your home is the sea) (written by Werner Scharfenberger and Fini Busch ), with which she reached number two in the German single charts and number five in the United States under the title Sailor . That was the first mainly German-speaking single that succeeded. In Germany she received a platinum record from her music label for over a million singles sold. A total of over two million records of this title were sold, which even made it into the Japanese charts. She recorded all of her records, which were mostly about wanderlust / homesickness , on the record labels of Deutsche Grammophon, Polydor and Heliodor (label) . Originally also under the name "Ditta Zuser". Several times she was also seen in films, where she performed her songs.
From the mid-1960s onwards she turned more to folk music and, since 1967, has presented the television program Im Krug zum green Kranze more than fifty times on Saarland Radio . In the 1970s, she hosted along with Maxl Count the music program Funny musicians of the ZDF . In 1976 she received the Hermann Löns Medal . By the time she died, Lolita had sold more than 20 million records. She was married twice but divorced both times. She had a child and a grandchild and last lived in Großgmain in the Salzburg area . She died of cancer at the age of 79. The urn with the remains of Lolita was buried in Großgmain.
