action

Women's lingerie manufacturer Otto von Senff asked his friend, the veterinarian Dr. Hans Sommer, persuade them to finally take a vacation. Both want to go to Venice with Otto's sister Ulla , but Otto decides to go on vacation in their summer house in Bavaria. The house is adjacent to a campsite that is overcrowded. Otto wanted to leave for Venice after a short time, but changed his mind when he met the attractive American Gaby Marshall, who was out with her friend Karin Biedermann. The duo has parked their caravan at the campsite. Gaby was actually expecting her fiancé Fritz, but Otto invited her when Otto told her that he had seen Fritz flirting with a camper. Meanwhile, Ulla is learning Dr. Richard Möbius, who is on holiday with the dachshund Hector at the campsite. Richard is less interested in Ulla than in her dachshund lady Susi, he wants Hector to have offspring.

After an evening full of alcohol, Otto found out the next morning that Gaby had gone swimming. He finds her in the lake, but Gaby is close to drowning. Otto cannot swim and therefore stops the local Xaver Kraxentrager, who is on his motorcycle on the way to the clinic. Only with the prospect of good pay can Xaver be persuaded to get Gaby out of the water. He receives 20 DM and drives on. When Gaby comes to, she believes that Otto saved her. She is now so excited about him that she wants to marry him. Otto agrees and secretly tries to learn to swim with Hans. He becomes desperate about it and eventually keeps the wedding party small so that no guests appear who know he can't swim. Meanwhile, Xaver tells his friends at the regulars table that he saved a woman and received 20 DM for it. Since the sum is so small and Xaver cannot show a rescue medal, his friends do not believe him. Xaver therefore announces himself to Otto on the day of the wedding to discuss the whole thing again.

At the wedding, Otto is awarded the rescue medal. He obliges Hans to keep Xaver off his neck. Hans in turn believes Fritz is Xaver. Together they go through the incident again, including the important detail that Otto cannot swim and that this could endanger the wedding in the end. After the civil ceremony, Xaver first appears and demands more money from Otto. When he finds out that the truth could destroy Otto's marriage, he extorts more and more money from Otto and also receives the medal. Fritz appears shortly afterwards at the wedding and clears up the fraud. Gaby is outraged and wants to get a divorce immediately. Hans' attempts to get Xaver to make false statements also fail. In the end it all boils down to the question of whether Otto can swim or not. Hans is convinced that Otto cannot, but he shows himself to be a good swimmer when Gaby's aunt falls into the water and has to be rescued. Otto and Gaby stay together. Hans and Karin fall in love and Ulla and Richard also became a couple through their dachshunds.
