Peter Hamel (director)

Kurt Peter Hamel (born December 7, 1911 in Mannheim , † February 26, 1979 in Munich ) was a German theater actor , screenwriter and director .

life and work

Originally from Mannheim, Peter Hamel first attended drama school in Frankfurt am Main . From 1929 to 1934 he studied at various universities in Germany. He was particularly influenced by Professors Friedrich Gundolf and Karl Jaspers . He made his acting debut in 1932 at the Stadttheater Gießen . Hamel later became director of the Stuttgart State Theater and theater director in Munich. From 1948 he worked as a film director and screenwriter.

In 1949 he made the film " Hans im Glück " with Gunnar Möller and Erich Ponto . In 1957 the movie " Love begins with roses " followed with Ingmar Zeisberg in the leading role and the Kessler twins in supporting roles. From 1958 onwards, Hamel mainly shot for German television .

The composer Peter Michael Hamel (* 1947) is the son of Kurt Peter Hamel.
