Friederike Migneco

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Friederike Maria Cayetana Migneco (born February 22, 1963 in Luxemburg , also Cayetana Caruso ) is a German-Italian poet, essayist and translator.

Life

Migneco spent her youth in Italy, where she attended the ancient language high school Liceo Spedalieri in Catania, and in Luxembourg, where she learned ancient languages at the European School. She completed her studies in comparative religious history and oriental studies at the University of La Sapienza in Rome in 1988 with a thesis on the image of Japan in the Germany of the Third Reich. From 1983 to 1985 she completed a course in the history and cultures of the Middle and Far East at ISMEO (Italian Institute for the Middle and Far East), which was founded by Giuseppe Tucci . Migneco's university lecturers included personalities such as the ancient historian Santo Mazzarino and Tucci's successor and Vipassana teacher Corrado Pensa . In 1989 she worked in the Italian parliament for the MP Vito Napoli as his public relations advisor, and in the following years as a freelance translator in Sicily. There she took part in the creation of a biodynamic agricultural project. Migneco “lived in Japan for a long time and had intensive encounters with the religious traditions of the Orient.” Today she lives in her native country, where she is the director of the Dudelange city library, and in April 2001 also took on the Luxembourgish citizenship.

Poetry

In 2011, Friederike Migneco published the collection of love poems I am made of you under the name Cayetana Caruso. In the stereophonic fullness of sound and the richness of forms of her poetry, a "more" can be felt, the longing for one person becomes a longing for the completely different. As the literary critic Elise Schmit writes, Migneco uses free rhythms and mostly dispenses with end rhymes, but her poems seem like poetry from another time. In this case, the choice of the pseudonym is not about “playful self-denial”. “It is more about the fact that, with the text production, an 'I' that gives itself this name is 'made', that is, brought forth. Strictly speaking, 'Cayetana Caruso' is therefore not a pseudonym, because the name does not serve to deceive: Its purpose is not to cover up, but to make it visible. It is, if you will, the outermost shell of an authority identity that is only constituted through the process of lyrical writing. ” Paul Taylor wrote of Migneco's poetry:“ The subtitle of the collection is love poems , and most of them are about love from Caruso's poems. It remains to be seen whether this is a woman's love for a man or a soul's love for her Creator. These questions are involuntarily posed to the reader, but not answered clearly, and it is both the mystery of what is being said and the intensity with which it is expressed that make these poems so stirring, so powerful, and so poignant. “Here the author addresses u. a. the connection between love and death. The book is dedicated to “Dir, Luc, and the Différence fondamentale”. As the literary scholar Josiane Weber writes, it is not about the "difference" between men and women, but rather the "Différence fondamentale [de l'Être]" on which the transcendental thinking of the French philosopher Maxence Caron is based. The dedication "is an indication of the thematic convergence of both authors under the sign of the completely different." In 2017, Friederike Migneco published the collection of mystical poems Annonciade: inni per la biografia di un'anima in Italy . These poems venture into areas of inwardness in which the gaze contemplates the emergence in itself of a thinking that is anchored in the original sources of being. The volume contains mostly Italian and some German poems and an introduction by Maxence Caron with seven excerpts from his poem Le Chant du Veilleur, translated into Italian : poëme symphonique . Her poetry addresses here u. a. the longing for the perfect harmony of man and nature and the search for the divine absolute in the awareness of the fragility of earthly existence.

Criticism of biotechnology

Migneco was in close contact with the Austrian-American scientist and writer Erwin Chargaff , whose work and concerns she made known in Italy. Chargaff's correspondence with Migneco is kept in the German Literature Archive in Marbach . Even before she got in touch with Chargaff personally and discussed the problems of genetic research with him, Migneco was a critic of biotechnology. After the publication of Chargaff's Incredible Secret in Italy, she submitted numerous essays that deal critically with genetic engineering. Migneco was the representative of the International Forum for Genetic Engineering (Ifgene) for Luxembourg .

Activity as a publisher

Together with the Austrian religious scholar and philosopher Volker Zotz , Friederike Migneco founded the non-profit culture publisher Kairos Edition in Luxembourg in 2002 . In addition to the German surrealist Richard Anders and Valentin Tomberg , the publisher's program also includes books on Christian spirituality and Buddhism, such as by Lama Anagarika Govinda , a prominent mediator of Tibetan Buddhism to the West. The Luxembourgish translation of the first two volumes of the children's classic Harry Potter by Joanne K. Rowling sees itself as a contribution to the establishment of Luxembourgish as an international literary language. The publishing house sees its headquarters in Luxembourg as "a special task. The multilingual Grand Duchy between Germany, France and Belgium lies at the intersection of Germanic and Romance cultures. This results in the Kairos Edition claiming an intercultural program and, in the broader sense of the word, going beyond cultural and intellectual barriers. Authors of the Kairos Edition are often cross-border crossers between systems, regions and cultures. "

Valentin Tomberg

Together with Wilhelm Maas , Martin Kriele , Giancarlo Roggero and others, Migneco is working on an understanding of the philosophy of the Baltic mystic Valentin Tomberg , whom she sees as being closely related to Carl Gustav Jung . She has translated a work by Tomberg into Italian and, together with Volker Zotz, published Tomberg's unpublished work Le mat itinérant and Innere Gewissheit .

other activities

Migneco was a board member and member of the editorial board of the Luxembourg cultural magazine forum for politics, society and culture , in which she regularly published articles. In Italy, texts and translations by Migneco have been published in magazines such as Il Foglio, La Sicilia, Si alla vita and Lo Straniero. She was also a board member of the Center de Documentation sur les Migrations Humaines in Dudelange , a center for migration research that was founded in 1995. Since 2007 she has published articles on cultural history and literary reviews in der Warte , the weekly supplement to the Luxemburger Wort
