Gunnar Möller
Gunnar Thor Karl Möller (born July 1, 1928 in Berlin-Neukölln ; † May 16, 2017 in Berlin ) was a German actor .
life and work
The son of a master optician took on film roles as a child. He played in Wonderland film Hansel and Gretel 1940 Hansel and then took more supporting roles, including in the NS - propaganda films head up, John! (1941), The Degenhardts (1943) and Junge Adler (1944). From 1943 to 1944 he was trained at the Lyda Wegener Drama Studio and then played at various Berlin theaters. In the season 1945/46 he was part of the ensemble of the Kassel State Theater . From 1947 he worked in Berlin at the Schlossparktheater , later at the Münchner Kammerspiele .
In films of the 1950s, the blonde was often seen in roles as a nice young man. Möller became famous in 1955 alongside Liselotte Pulver as a student Andreas in I often think of Piroschka based on the novel of the same name by Hugo Hartung . In 1959 he played alongside Sonja Ziemann and Brigitte Horney in Frank Wisbar's anti-war film Night fell over Gotenhafen about the sinking of the cruise ship Wilhelm Gustloff . A year earlier he had with Wisbar already in the war drama dog, you want to live forever worked.
From 1954 he was married to the actress Brigitte Rau , with whom he had three children. After the family moved several times, they settled in London's bohemian Hampstead . In the 1960s Möller also played in England, but most of his roles in English-speaking countries remained small. In Germany he was rarely in the cinema from the 1960s onwards, but was seen more often on television. In 1972 and 1976 he played Adolf Hitler in two films in a Czechoslovak film trilogy. 1979 Möller was in London for the affections committed manslaughter sentenced his wife to five years in prison, of which he in two UK was serving.
After his release in November 1981, he returned to Germany, started acting again and also appeared on television. In 2005 he made a comeback with the film Oktoberfest . Since 2003 he was married to his longtime partner Christiane Hammacher . With her he appeared together in a stage version of Loriot's Dramatic Works, a production of the comedy in the Bayerischer Hof , which was also shown as a guest performance in German-speaking countries. Gunnar Möller stood in front of the camera for various film and television productions up to a year before his death.
In 2011 Möller was appointed a full honorary member of the "European Culture Workshop" (EKW) in Berlin. The celebration took place on the occasion of the premiere of the new version of I often think of Piroschka in 2011 in Heidenheim an der Brenz .
Gunnar Möller died at the age of 88 and found his final resting place in the Lichterfelde park cemetery .
