13 little donkeys and the Sonnenhof is a German feature film from 1958 . The film was based on the novel Thirteen Old Donkeys by Ursula Bruns , who also wrote the novel for the Immenhof films . Sometimes it is also carried under this title.

action

Josef Krapp is a globetrotter. Once he left his wife Martha to travel around the world in search of adventure. Meanwhile, Martha took care of orphans whom she placed in her “Sonnenhof”. She takes care of the children lovingly and with a strict hand. Suddenly Josef reappears in the small village. For the orphans, he's a cowboy with all kinds of stories to tell. You immediately take it into your heart. However, Martha fears that her husband is a bad influence on the children. And so it quickly comes to conflicts that seem insurmountable. Martha, who still loves her husband, demands that he leave immediately. The children are angry about it. But when Krapp helps them save thirteen old donkeys from slaughter, Martha sees the good in her husband and can imagine a future together with him again.

Reviews

"Cheerful, honest conversation based on a youth novel, with one of the last 'Oops, now I'm coming' roles for Hans Albers."

"An only partially enjoyable everyday comedy by Hans Deppe."

Others

On some of Hans Albers' sound carriers, the film is incorrectly titled Thirteen Old Donkeys after the book title . Albers sang three songs in the film that were composed by Martin Böttcher . The lyrics come from the pen of Hanns Stani.

The station shown in the film is the Brest-Aspe station (in the film, however, it is at the station building and on the Buchenhorst platform, seen relatively at the beginning of the film, when the escaped 13 donkeys are caught again) on the Bremerhaven – Buxtehude railway line .
