The Outsider is a comedy of director Hans Deppe dating back to 1935. In the lead role embodies Heinz Rühmann the carpenter journeyman Peter Bang.

action

The journeyman carpenter Peter Bang, who doesn't really know the slightest thing about horses, wins the trust of the broken mare Toni and carefully leads her back to her stud . There he is offered a job as a horse boy, as he evidently has a special empathy for horses. Peter accepts the offer, but sees that the jockey Otto Burian is not exactly squeamish about the mare. He thinks that Otto's colleague, Hans Rückert, can handle horses better and secretly organizes that Hans can train with the mare.

When the owner of the stud decides that Toni should be sold to a horse dealer, Peter fears that she will then be slaughtered. He escapes with her from the stud and finds her accommodation in a traveling circus.

The serious horse trainer Maltmann, however, buys the mare and brings her back to her stud, where she can then stay for good. Peter, who in the meantime has fallen in love with the daughter of the horse trainer Maltmann, Elli, also returns to the stud as a result.

When Toni is supposed to start a race with the jockey Hans, Hans injures himself and Peter steps in for him. He wins the race ahead of Otto Burian, who started on a different horse. Peter won the race, but he has to forget the thoughts of his new love Elli, because she has already fallen in love with Hans.

Reviews

"In spite of massive unbelievability, a pleasant attempt to steer Rühmann's comedy in Chaplinesque channels."
