Willi Schur

Willi Schur (born August 22, 1888 in Breslau ; † November 1, 1940 in Berlin ) was a German actor , singer and director . As a film actor, he could only be called W. Schur at times .

Life

He began to be interested in the stage arts at an early age, so that after completing his school education he gained his first professional experience in this field at the age of 18. Initially employed as a comedian , various engagements in northern Germany soon followed . However, he soon got engagements in Nuremberg and finally in Berlin .

It was here that his career as a film actor began in the 1920s. However, his real breakthrough came a decade later, when he primarily played the roles of villains and outlaws and made a name for himself in this segment.

Among the best-known films in which he was involved as an actor were Kuhle Wampe or: Who Owns the World? , The Captain von Köpenick , the literary film adaptation Berlin - Alexanderplatz based on the novel by Alfred Döblin , The man who was Sherlock Holmes and many others. He also played in many homeland films . Willi Schur embodied roles in a total of more than 90 films.

His film partners included Walter Janssen , Theo Lingen , Paul Verhoeven , Camilla Horn , Paul Dahlke , Attila Hörbiger , Grethe Weiser , Curt Goetz , Bernhard Minetti , Willy Fritsch and Gustaf Gründgens .

He also worked as a director and was theater director in Chemnitz .

Willi Schur died in Berlin in 1940 and was buried in the Wilmersdorfer Waldfriedhof Stahnsdorf .
