action

The artist Keats has lost his wife Silvia Castellani to the art shooter Jack Carey. Carey did not marry Silvia Castellani, but she has been his partner for years. Coincidence now brings Keats, Silvia and Carey together for an engagement in the Coloseum-Varieté. Carey has grown tired of Silvias in every way and is looking for a replacement. Silvia feels this and between the two there are increasingly violent scenes. Three sisters who also appear in the Coloseum-Varieté, Alice, Gloria and the young Ruby, witness these arguments. Gloria, whom Carey has long admired as an artist, is applying for the new assistant role. She should only be given the position if her sisters agree. They forbid Gloria to take the job: They fear for their reputation, since Carey is considered a philanderer. The next evening there is an accident on the stage. During the new number, Carey shoots Silvia Castellani. When Silvia Castellani awakens from her faint, she confirms that she herself loaded Carey's gun so that he could shoot her. She believed she could no longer bear a life without him. Eventually she separates from Carey and remorsefully returns to her husband Keats.

Remarks

In this film, Hans Moser plays one of his typical roles as a slightly confused theater stage manager who is not averse to wine and who is constantly on the run from his wife who drives him to work.

criticism

La Jana was particularly effective because of the suppleness of her dance movement ".

meaning

Like the film Truxa, Menschen vom Varieté is designed as a pure entertainment film . Just like Truxa, the plot takes place exclusively in the dazzling and colorful world of artists and artists. The audience should be entertained by the dramatic acts and characters. The film warns against the freedom of women to choose their life partner. The woman who does this in the film suffers greatly from her decision ( La Jana ). While Silvia Castellani (La Jana) wants to let him shoot her lovesick after the end of her relationship with Jack Carey ( Attila Hörbiger ), Alice McLean ( Christl Mardayn ) confesses to Jack Carey towards the end of the film that her supposed sisters Gloria and Ruby are hers Daughters are. Jack Carey knows that, as he was one of the stable boys Alice's husband picked up when he fell from the big top and died. Alice gets to know Carey, whom she had previously despised because of the frequent change of his artistic partners, from another side and falls in love with him, who in turn has secretly desired her for a long time, and they become a couple. This contrasts this love-won partnership with La Jana's unhappy bond with Carey.
