occupation

After rain shines sun is a German film fun game from 1949 by Erich Kobler . Sonja Ziemann and the "new discovery" Gert Fröbe play the main roles . The story is based on the Schwyzerdütsche Gassenhauer of the same name (1946) by Artur Beul .

action

Lanky Konstantin is fed up with life and plans to end it as soon as possible. As he is about to go into the water, he discovers a young girl named Sabine who is obviously up to exactly the same thing as him. Since Konstantin believes that this pretty young woman has no reason to throw away her life, he postpones his own suicide and saves Sabine from the water. United in their fate, the two young people quickly begin to like each other, because as the film title suggests: After rain, the sun shines.

So Konstantin and Sabine finally get married. It would all be so nice if the police didn't suddenly show up in search of a long-sought marriage swindler, for whom the state takes the shy Constantine of all people. His Sabine cannot believe this and assumes that it must be a mistake. After a few more incidents and entanglements, Constantine's innocence is finally discovered and he is released again. Now nothing stands in the way of the happiness of the two young people.

Production notes

After Rain Shines Sun was shot in the film studio in Freiburg im Breisgau as well as in Staufen im Breisgau and in the Black Forest (exterior shots) and was premiered on December 16, 1949 in Düsseldorf. The West Berlin premiere took place on October 13, 1950.

The main actor Fröbe had had his breakthrough the year before with the leading role of the average consumer in the contemporary satire Berlin Ballad . After rain shines sun enabled the then still spindly actor to play his second leading role in a film.

Theo Zwierski designed the film structures, Otto Lehmann was production manager. Co-producer Anton Weber also worked unnamed on the script. It was to be his last contribution to a film with a game story.

useful information

After the two owners of the short-lived production company Arbeitsgemeinschaft Film (AGF) GmbH Freiburg, Alexander Krafft and Anton Weber , who had already made a “grandiose flop” with Wohin die Zugfahren and after rain shines sun by no means was a box office success, the AGF had to be brief then file for bankruptcy.

Reviews

"Undemanding post-war comedy with a lot of gossip and a little bit of contemporary flavor."
