All inmates can escape to the island with two rubber boats.

The group splits up to explore the island. Whitey, who is afraid of an act of revenge, is able to steal Petersen's service weapon unnoticed. He steals one rubber dinghy, destroys the second and settles down. Meanwhile, the others discover a large number of abandoned ships and two bunkers. In the first there are laboratory animals . The second bunker is equipped with automatic cameras that are aimed at a neighboring island. A countdown is also displayed. They realize that they are in a nuclear weapons test area and that a hydrogen bomb will be detonated in a few hours. The German physicist Dr. Strauss explains that the ignition is triggered by a remote-controlled aircraft flying over it and that the explosion could be prevented if the power supply to the detonator on the neighboring island is interrupted. Reisener decides to swim there. Even after a short distance, he is threatened by sharks . The injured Jake Bennett then jumps into the sea and sacrifices himself. Once on the island, Reisener climbs a metal tower with the bomb on top. Here he meets Whitey, who shoots him and wounds his arm. Reisener throws a pipe wrench at Whitey's head. This falls from the tower and dies. In the meantime, the unmanned aircraft has almost reached the island. At the last minute, Reisener managed to break through the power supply to the remote detonator with an ax. This makes the military aware of the group and rescues them.

During a stopover on a beach in Saudi Arabia , the plane was shot at by locals because they believed it was an Israeli invasion. As a result of the damage, the aircraft was abandoned and remained there.
