Wilkie Cooper

Wilkie Cooper (born October 19, 1911 in London , England as Douglas Ralph Cooper , † December 15, 2001 in Worthing , West Sussex , England) was a British cameraman who worked on several films by Ray Harryhausen .

Life

Cooper had already started filming as a child actor in 1926, before he switched to the camera in the early 30s and worked as a simple cameraman in such important productions as 1936 " Fire over England ". In the same year he worked on the documentary Conquest of the Air with Laurence Olivier for the first time as a cameraman. During the Second World War he made some war films such as The Blockade with John Mills . In 1950 he directed the camera for Alfred Hitchcock in Die Rote Lola . In 1958 he shot Sindbad's Seventh Journey for the first time together with effects specialist Ray Harryhausen. Both made six films together, including the monumental film Jason and the Argonauts . In 1963 he shot the comedy film Even the little ones want up with Richard Lester . He made his only foray into the television business in 1967 when he filmed five episodes of the television series With Umbrella, Charm and Melon .

Cooper retired into private life in 1972. He was married to actress Peggy Bryan until her death in 1996 and had two children.
