West Sussex is a county in southern England . It borders on East Sussex (with Brighton and Hove ), Hampshire and Surrey . The traditional county of Sussex was divided into two administrative areas with their own main towns as early as 1888. Sussex remained a separate ceremonial county until 1974, when East Sussex and West Sussex each received their own Lord Lieutenants . West Sussex's administrative headquarters are in Chichester .
