Bognor Regis [ bɒgnɔɹ‿ˈiːdʒɪs ] is an English seaside resort in West Sussex on the English Channel with 22,555 inhabitants. It has an eight kilometer long beach and is a resort and health resort.

history

In the Middle Ages the place emerged as a fishing village called Bognor and developed into a holiday resort in the 18th century . Many structures such as the Dome House (now a teacher training institute) were built in the Georgian style . Since 1929 the place has been called Bognor Regis (meaning "Des Königs Bognor" , Latin regis is the genitive of rex "King") because King George V cured a serious illness there. The English poet William Blake lived in nearby Felpham from 1800 to 1803 .
