The road branches south of Dorking in Beare Green near Capel (Surrey) from the A24 road and runs in a south-south-west direction largely on the route of the Roman road via Ockley to Billingshurst in West Sussex , which is bypassed on a bypass in the west; the A272 road will be crossed. In Pulborough the A283 road is crossed. The road then crosses the South Downs and crosses the A27 road at Fontwell . From there it leads to the coastal town and seaside resort of Bognor Regis on the English Channel , where it ends.
