course
The A27 branches off the A36 road at Whiteparish and heads east via Romsey am Test and then roughly parallel to the M27 motorway to Fareham , where it crosses the A32 road and past Portsmouth to the north. It runs a short distance together with the A3 road . At the end of the A27, the M27 continues with at least four lanes to the east as a primary route, leads past the junction of the A3 (M) road and crosses Havant. The road bypasses Chichester south, crosses the A29 road in Fontwell , bypasses Arundel (extension of the bypass in planning) and continues between the South Downs and the Channel coast , no longer continuously four lanes; there are Worthing and Brighton bypassed. At Lewes , the four-lane expansion at the confluence of the A26 road ends . The road continues through the South Downs to Polegate , runs a short distance together with the four-lane A22 road and meets the coastal A259 road east of Eastbourne near Pevensey , where it ends.
