Also known as the Portsmouth road known A3 road ( English for road A3 ) is a highway and a majority of at least four lanes developed primary route in England . It begins in London on King William Street, runs in a general south-westerly direction via Kingston-upon-Thames , crosses the M25 motorway ring road at its junction 9, continues past Guildford and Petersfield , becomes the A3 (M) motorway at Horndean and finally meets east of Portsmouthonto the A27 road , while the "old" two-lane A3 leads west of it via Waterlooville directly to Portsmouth and ends there.
The M3 motorway , which connects London as an extension of the A316 road , starting in Sunbury , via Basingstoke and Winchester with Southampton , runs significantly further to the north-west, initially parallel to the A30 road and then to the A33 road .
