The first MTV Video Music Awards Latinoamerica was held on October 24, 2002 at the Jackie Gleason Theater in Miami , Florida . The moderators were Diego Luna and Mario Pergolini .
Most of the awards (five) were given to the Colombian singer Shakira , including the two main prizes, Artist of the Year and Video of the Year. Along with Juanes and Diego Torres , she also led the nominations at five.
