Nickolas Gene Carter (born January 28, 1980 in Jamestown, New York ) is an American singer and actor . He has been successful as a member of the boy band Backstreet Boys since the 1990s. In 2002 he released his first solo record.

Life

Nick Carter was born on January 28, 1980, the eldest son of Robert Gene Carter and Jane Elizabeth Spaulding, in Jamestown, New York. He has four siblings. His older half-sister comes from an earlier marriage of his father. After his parents divorced in 2003, Robert Carter remarried and had another son in 2005 with his current wife. His wife brought a daughter into the marriage.

In the mid-1980s, the Carters moved from New York to Florida. There Carter took part in various auditions for commercials, film and television, which brought him smaller roles, such as in Edward Scissorhands , at an early age . At the same time he made his first experiences on stage and in the recording studio. In 1993, the then 13-year-old Carter became the youngest member of the boy band Backstreet Boys , which had its breakthrough in 1995. Carter became the group's most popular member and teenage idol.

In 2002 he released his first solo album Now or Never , which received partial critical acclaim. In contrast to Justin Timberlake , who also came from a boy band from the 1990s and released a solo album at about the same time, Carter was only able to record a respectable success with his own album. From 2003 to 2004 Carter had a media-rich relationship with the hotel heiress Paris Hilton . He later had the Paris tattoo that he made during this time covered with a skull and the words "Old habits die hard" (old habits are difficult to get rid of).

In the middle of 2006, Carter and his four siblings moved into a house in Los Angeles in order to get a grip on existing family problems as part of a reality series House of Carters . Attempts at rapprochement were shown between Carter and his siblings as well as his mother, with whom he had not maintained contact for several years due to disputes.

On September 29, 2006, Carter caused a stir when he revealed on Howard Stern's US radio show that he had been in a relationship with his then schoolmate Debra Lafave for a year and a half during his school days and had also lost his virginity during that time. Lafave, who later worked as a schoolteacher, was charged with sexual abuse of wards for having an intimate relationship with a 14-year-old student.

In 2008, Carter stated that he had been addicted to drugs and alcohol for years but had now overcome his addiction. After his doctor certified that he had heart muscle disease, Carter changed his life radically. He goes to the gym, eats a healthy diet and has renounced alcohol. On April 12, 2014, he married his girlfriend Lauren Kitt in Santa Barbara. In November 2015, he took 2nd place in the US dance show Dancing with the Stars . In the same month Carter released his third solo album entitled All American . In January 2016, Carter was arrested in Florida for a brawl. This is his third arrest after 2002 (for refusing to comply with police instructions) and 2005 (for drunk driving).

On April 19, 2016, he became the father of a son. On October 2, 2019, his wife gave birth to their second child, a daughter.

Artist siblings

Nick Carter's brother Aaron is also in the music business. His sister Leslie was also a musician, she died on January 31, 2012 at the age of 25. Carter, who was currently touring with his solo album, continued the tour and dedicated the remainder of that tour to his sister.
