Bersuit
Bersuit is an eight-piece Latin rock band from Argentina , founded in 1987 by singer Gustavo Cordera . Their original name was Henry y la palangana , the name Bersuit Vergarabat was not adopted until 1989 , today the short form Bersuit is used more often and is also used on CDs.
style
In their music, Bersuit Vergarabat mostly mix elements of rock music with various Latin American rhythms such as Cumbia (e.g. El Viejo de Arriba ), Murga ( Murguita del Sur ) and Cuarteto ( La Bolsa ). Other songs are influenced by the crossover , like Señor Cobranza , a cover version of a song by the Argentinian band Las Manos de Filippi , which became one of Bersuit's biggest hits. Again, calm, acoustic ballads are part of the repertoire, so that the music of the band is very diverse in terms of style.
Career
Bersuit worked their way up to one of the most successful bands in the Argentine rock scene during the 1990s. The breakthrough is the album Don Leopardo from 1996. The follow-up album Libertinaje (1998) continued the success on an international level, in 1999 the band made a successful tour through Spain , Mexico and other Latin American countries.
The band supported Argentinian workers musically during the Argentina crisis in their struggle to take over and self- manage disused factories.
Bersuit also produced part of the score for the documentary The Take by Naomi Klein and Avi Lewis.
