Latin rock is the fusion or combination of rock music with Latin American rhythms . In French the term “ chicano punk ” is used for this , and in English the term “ chicano rock ” is common, terms that emphasize the purely Latin American origin.

In Latin rock, rock instruments are used with percussion instruments , but often also with piano riffs typical of Latin American music, such as B. occur in Son Cubano or in Merengue , combined.

The style of music was created by Carlos Santana in the late 1960s .
